No need to apologize, it is a very legitimate question, and one not easily answered. But I will do my best!

The most obvious answer to be addressed is the fact that accidents of birthplace and culture play a large role in beliefs. People follow religions for many different reasons, and once an area is set in a stable religion, it becomes part of history and is passed on through the generations.

There are, however, a lot of discrepancies regarding the history of our people, but I will try to go along with the best documented stories. According to the writings of our ancestors, we were a unique people born unto this harsh land in the image of our Goddess Freya. We were special, we were different, and through the voice of a strong young woman with white hair and heterochromia, we heard our Goddess’s wisdom. She spoke to us through mortal incarnations, and instructed us to write down her words and to dedicate our lives to her. It is these writings, such as the Book of Fólkvangr, that make up the basis of our religion.

Since us as humans are born mortals, not gods, we are therefore inherently flawed, but Freya offers us a means of redemption through belief and acceptance of her as our true Goddess. After death we will be reunited with her in Sessrúmnir, but only if we dedicate our mortal life to her worship. Radical believers go on to say that this worship fuels her power, and that one day Freya will overcome Odin and destroy all of Midgard, saving those who trusted in her, killing all non-believers and essentially recreating all human beings in her image, but I do not condone this belief.

Ah, but I digress! This is not a lesson in our religion so much as a study of our roots; allow me to get back on track.

Soon after our creation and the construction of the sacred writings, the ancient people of Arunafeltz embarked on a trek. In search of a more copious life and better resources, our ancestors migrated to the land now known as Rune-Midgard. This area, however, was already well into their Odinistic ways. They tagged us Arunafeltzi as heretics because of our beliefs and refusal to adapt the Odin religion, and violently drove us back to our deserted land. This, of course, angered the Arunafeltzi greatly, and because they were denied the freedom to worship Freya, it sparked quite a strong will to abandon all Odinistic ideals completely. And, needless to say, we adapted quite well to the desert life, haha!

Yes, so it is there in our history that our stark differences in beliefs spawn. I hope that throughout all that babble I answered your question! Do let me know if you’re still in need of more answers. May the Goddess bless you!

And for centuries the sad people have dominated religion. They have expelled laughter — from the churches, from the mosques, from the temples. The day laughter enters back into the holy places they will be really holy, because they will be whole. Laughter is the only quality that distinguishes man from other animals. Only man can see the ridiculous, the absurd.”

- Tynd

And finally, one last recording of an arch bishop hymn,...

And finally, one last recording of an arch bishop hymn, Praefatio!

Long answer: Yes, of course. I have a full spectrum of principle-defying activities. Smoking a pack a day. Refusing to participate in hourly prayer. Using a sword instead of a non-bladed weapon. Killing people. Not believing in Freya. The list goes on. In fact, a more creative question would probably be “have you ever done anything that would not go against the principles of your church,” because I would actually have to think about that one.

Of course, not many people are aware I do this shit. If word got out I can only imagine what would become of me. So let us make this our own little secret, okay?

I’m not a preacher like my dad, this will probably be short. Let’s just say murder is sometimes required.

People who murder innocents for fun, well, they’re a little fucked up in the head, I don’t particularly agree with that. But people who murder people who support murdering innocents for fun, yeah, go for it. In the long run we’re all dead anyway, murder just allows death to come a little sooner to those who are going to cause more trouble if they continue living.

If you think about it, death is the ultimate solution to a problem. If there’s no man, there’s no problem. So if you have a really problematic person, or, you know, millions of problematic persons, it’s best to get rid of them. Problem solved.

The death of millions is just a statistic anyway.

(This wasn’t a sermon at all.)

Most of what I talked about [the very essence of faith] was already covered in the answer to this question, so I will try to touch on some other points here.

“Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”
- Book of Fólkvangr

Faith is a common denominator! Every one alive daily expresses faith in something. In our physical world alone, there is faith! When you get dressed in the morning, you have faith your clothes will be there. When you mail a letter, you have faith the postal system will get it to the right address. When you walk into a building, you express faith in the architect and the workmen. Each of us, regardless of our backgrounds, educations, our social status or our ethnicity can express faith.

Of course, faith is also expressed in the spiritual realm! The difference between the faith we exercise in our daily routine and our religious faith is the object of that faith. Rune-Midgard puts their faith in Odin, Schwartzvald puts their faith in science, though their religion promotes faith in Odin and faith in themselves as human beings. We as Arunafeltzi put our faith in the great Goddess, Freya. It is important to remember that one’s faith is only as good as the object in which they place their faith.

“The contemplation of our Goddess is not affected by sight and hearing, nor is it comprehended by any of the customary perceptions of the mind. For ‘no eye has seen, and no ear has heard,’ nor does it belong to those things which usually enter into the heart of man.”
- Book of Fólkvangr

True faith is confident obedience to Freya’s words despite circumstances or consequences. It is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen. Faith is the foundation that gives the believer the confidence to stand!

I remember many years ago during my visit to Yuno, I took a break in one of their parks [I was actually feeling quite ill, haha]. I witnessed a father and his young son down by a pond not far from the bench I was laying on. The father was standing in the water, holding his son, who seemed to feel secure until he started walking deeper into the water. As the water rose higher and higher on the child, his face registered increasing degrees of sheer panic. The lad held on tight to his father, filled with anxiety, despite the fact his father was easily able to touch the bottom and would certainly not let his own child drown!

It made me think, had the little boy been able to analyze his situation, he should have realized there was no reason for increased anxiety. It was a deep pond, and the water’s depth at any part of it would have been over his head had his father not been holding him. His safety anywhere in the water depended on his faith in his dad.

At various points in our lives, all of us feel out of our depth; we feel we are getting deeper and deeper into despair. Problems abound, jobs lost, stress and even the death of our loved ones. Our temptation is to panic, because we feel we have fallen and lost control! Yet, as with the boy in the pond, the truth is we’ve never been in control over even the most precious things of life. Always, we are held up by the grace of our Goddess, Freya, whom never changes. She will never be out of her depth, and therefore we are as safe when we are “going deeper” as we have ever been. It is that confidence, that untouched trust, which makes up the very foundation faith, and it is why it must be carried with us always.
